Abus Mobile Security began in 1924 when August Bremicker and his sons started making padlocks in the cellar of their home in Volmarstein, Germany. They went on to become one of the leaders in locks for bikes and mopeds when they invented the first U-lock in 1971. Since then, their locks have continued to win design awards. If you've done any searching at all, you've probably discovered tons of bike lock brands are out there, so why choose Abus? We like that they have a noticeable strength-to-weight ratio with the method of steel-hardening they use. We also appreciate the innovation of "keyed-alike" locks, which can be ordered specially so that multiple locks use the same key (this is great for families who might be using locks interchangeably within the family). Lastly, you may notice that we stock chain locks and not so much U-locks. U-locks are great and they tend to work best on bikes which are more compact because the "U" shaped shackle is rigid and can't accommodate weird sized bikes. Turns out we sell mostly weird-sized bikes! It also turns out that chains are particularly good at articulating and reaching around those gaps and weird frame geometries.
